I was starting to learn how to drive and i was making progress… A few months ago my boyfriend was driving and i was the passenger and he lost control and we rolled 4 times. We only had minor injuries but i now have a huge fear of driving and i freak out if im in a car and it feels like the way it did when it started to roll. i have basically forgotten everything i had learnt and im scared to get back in a car. My question is what is the best way to deal with the fear?
just want to assert the point that it is not a question about should i drive again… it is a question of how do you lose the fear after being in a bad car crash???
Try thinking of it this way. If you do not learn to drive without the fear you will be dependent on others for the rest of your life to get you where you want to go. People will be annoyed with you. You will be standing outside in the rain waiting for a bus or you will be late for all your appointments because your ride didnt show up on time. Your freedom will be very limited.
i’ve been driving for almost 2yrs but i never been in any freeway at all cz i’m scared….but i really wanna learn how? how can i fight it? did u guys exp. that too? how did u over come that fear?
You just have to go do it. Try doing it REALLY (4am) early in the morning when there are fewer cars around. If it’s the speed you’re scared of, stay in the right lane and go slower until you’re more comfortable. The only way you’ll get over it is experience!
This is a non-paritisan question. I’m asking supporters of all candidates and I’m leaving my personal choice out of it, so please don’t post responses about the +/- of specific candidates. I’m ask if whatever decision you are making this election is being driven by fear of the opposing candidate.
I think fear is the only thing driving Americans to vote nowadays, whether if it’s fear of losing their home, or legalizing abortion, or having no retirement, fear of having a “Muslim” president, fear of having an old senile person trying to run things.. (these are not my opinions, I’m just repeating what I’ve heard people say)…
It’s all based on fear.
You can say ignorance drives votes too, but usually fear is what fuels the ignorance of others.
Hello everyone I am trying to get over my fear of driving anyone have any suggestions? This is my 3rd learners permit i had since 2004. I am real nervous when it comes to driving. I am nervous of the people behind me as i feel they are rushing me to drive faster. I took driving lessons at a Driving school and i still am a little nervous. I am tired of hearing people saying to me you are that age and do not even have your license. I know how to drive its just the fear that is holding me back.
Try practicing at first in areas like rural roads because you can get the feel of speed, but don’t have to worry about people following behind you. I found that once you are comfortable going faster and remaining in your lane, that driving becomes easier when you are on a scarier road. I was terrified to start driving, but now its getting easier. Good luck and just remember that driving is only nerve- racking when your thinking it will be.
My question is trying to target the roads carnage we have when it rains cats and dogs. Many people fear driving at a high speed stating that in case of emergency the brakes usually fails during that season leading to coalition. That is why Iam trying to ask what happens during that time.
Some have the erroneous idea that it is brake failure during rain that causes the inability to control and/or stop a vehicle. This is not the case. What actually causes the problem is hydroplaning – the car’s tires riding on a sheet of water causing loss of traction. This condition occurs when water in front of your tires increases more quickly than the weight of your vehicle can push it out of the way through the treads on your tires. The increased water pressure causes the vehicle to lift slightly and ride on a thin layer of water which has built up between the tires and the road. This is the critical point when the vehicle becomes totally out of contact with the road, and becomes uncontrollable, the brakes seeming not to work. Actually, the brakes DO work, but when you slam them on during an emergency and it’s wet, the tires are not making contact with the road. The wheels lock up, and your vehicle begins to slide on the water sheet.
3 things that cause hydroplaning:
1. Vehicle speed. Increased speed reduces wet traction.
2. Tread depth on your vehicle’s tires. The deeper the tread, the greater the traction. Bald tires are a safety problem.
3. The deeper the water on the road, the sooner you will loose traction. However, even a very thin layer of water can cause loss of traction, even at low speeds.
To remain safe – remember to SLOW DOWN when driving in wet weather.
Okay so i’m 18 years old and i only have my permit. I am terrified of driving. I don’t get why but i just am. i really stress over it and almost everyone i know drives. What can i do to help me with this fear i really need help with it!
ok one your not the only one with this fear! i am actually in the same position you are in and im 24! but i have to get over this fear to..so anyone who makes fun of you tell them to shut their mouths. everyone has a fear! driving in a parking lot doesn’t help. what a lot of fear comes from is other cars while on the actual rode. my suggestion (which im gonna do) is drive with someone supportive at night with a lot less cars! you get use to the road, while getting practice driving in the dark! conquers two different fears of driving at once. then slowly work up from there as your confidence grows. good luck honey!
i have been driving for 5 years not in highways or freeways i try to avoid them, and i still have the fear of driving on freeways and highways, i feel like im going to get lost or something or get into a car accident and the signs and numbers are just too confusing for me what should i do? i really want to overcome it because i know i can are there tips or things i should do in order to be confident to drive on HW and FW because i know how to drive.
dont be afraid. its easier than driving on the street because you’re just driving straight. you just need to keep up with traffic. & to get over the fear of getting lost just practice driving with someone who knows the freeway.
I like an house north of our major city, Atlanta, and I have this huge fear of driving on the interstate. I do ok if someone else drives, but if a big truck goes right beside on either side I freak out. & if 2 get on either side at the time I practically hold my breath until there is an opening again. Everything seems so close to the vehicle though. When I use mapquest, I always use the avoid highways option and go the longer route. Any suggestions?
Just tell yourself this: No matter how bad you drive, there is someone out there you drives worse than you.
The fear of driving over bridges….Yeah What do you do to get over the fear of driving a car over bridges? Thanks ahead of time for all the answers.
I used to be scared to ride over bridges let alone drive over them. That was when I was younger though. You need to know that this fear is unfounded and you can get over the fear of driving over bridges if you work at it. Simply take a walk over a bridge or two and look down. Look at all the cars going over the bridge safely and tell yourself that you will be safe too. Another thing that can help is this site about the driving fear people have and how to overcome it. I hope this helps!
I am 19 years old and I do not know how to drive. I would love to learn how to drive so I can be able to get to class and to work without depending on anyone else. But there is always the fear of getting lost, causing a wreck, or any other careless mistakes I could make when driving; so I never get the courage to actually get behind the wheel. Does anyone have any advice?
Do it. Get driving lessons if at all possible, but you won’t get over the fear avoiding it. Once you start you will love the independance.
